Special Instructions:
Transdermal (cream) and sublingual bio-identical hormones may produce artificially high levels in the saliva that do not correlate with blood levels. This increase from cream hormones may last for weeks to months after discontinuing use. If you are taking these substances – or have taken them within the last 12 months – please consult with your healthcare practitioner before taking this test.
The following drugs and herbs may influence levels of hormones reported in this test: ketoconazole, clomiphene, phenytoin, oral steroids (e.g. Prednisone), cortisone cream or patches, and any steroid-based nasal sprays, inhalers, or eye drops; DHEA sublingual pellets or drops. Let your physician know about these and any other medications, herbs, and supplements that you have used in the past 3 months. Do not change use of supplements or medications unless instructed to do so by your healthcare provider.
It is important that you collect saliva during the specified time frame. One hour prior to collection do not eat, brush or floss your teeth, use mouthwash, chew gum or use any tobacco products. You may drink ONLY water during this time.
Description:
Eight specimens – collected over six days – are examined for levels of estradiol, estrone, estriol, progesterone, the progesterone/estradiol ratio (P/E2), and testosterone. In addition to thorough evaluation of the sex hormones, Menopause Plus also evaluates DHEA, cortisol, and melatonin for the broadest scope of clinical insight.
To enhance clinical utility, in addition to evaluating patient results against various healthy cohort reference ranges, a therapeutic cohort results cover page is provided for the clinician to quickly and conveniently observe where patient results fall in comparison to a cohort of peri/menopausal women treated with bioidentical hormone therapy.
The Menopause Plus hormone test provides information about the impact that shifting hormone levels can have in women during perimenopause and menopause and in men during andropause (male menopause). In addition, imbalances of other steroid hormones, such as DHEA, cortisol, and melatonin, can influence sex-hormone production.
