Ship to lab Monday-Thursday only. Specimen must be drawn before breakfast. Non-Fasting collections can cause deviations in results. For 48 hours prior to the specimen collection discontinue taking any amino acid dietary supplements and/or amino acid metabolites such as GABA, 5- HTP, and creatine. For 48 hours prior the specimen collection do not consume artifical sweeteners containing aspartame such as NutraSweet®, Equal®, etc. Consumption of these products can cause false elevations of reported amino acid results. Your physician may or may not tell you to discontinue using other dietary supplements or medications.
Description:
Amino acid (AA) analysis aids in the identification of dietary protein adequacy and amino acid balance, gastrointestinal dysfunctions, forms of protein intolerance, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, renal and hepatic dysfunction, psychiatric abnormalities, susceptibility to inflammatory response and oxidative stress, reduced detoxification capacity and many other inherent and acquired disorders in AA metabolism. Plasma is traditionally used to assess the status of essential AA while urine analysis provides more information regarding AA wasting and aberrant metabolism associated with co-factor insufficiencies.
